Dairyland BJD Tips and Tricks:

Here are some useful tips for making the most of your forum activities!

NEW POSTS
Did you know that the easiest way to browse the latest forum posts is to use the "New Posts" link in the top forum menu bar? Rather than simply scanning the forum front page for new posts, and potentially missing out on topics of interest, the "New Posts" link is the most effective way to view ALL new information posted to the forum. Additionally, if you click the little check box in front of each thread title in the "New Posts" area, you will be taken directly to the first new post in that thread which you haven't yet read. Using the "New Posts" link is really the most efficient way to make the most of your forum visit!

MARK FORUMS READ
Are you tired of seeing topics you're not interested in constantly showing up as "New?" The easiest way to solve this problem is to "Mark Forums Read." To do this, simply access the "Quick Links" drop-down menu in the top forum menu bar. Select the "Mark Forums Read" link, and voila! No more pesky posts. You can also Mark Forums Read by scrolling to the bottom of the forum front page, and clicking the "Mark Forums Read" link, located right above the "What's Going On - Currently Active Members" area.

Thanks for reading the Dairyland Digest! We hope you've enjoyed catching up on recent forum activities. However, the best way to keep up is to visit DairylandBJD.com frequently, and participate as much as possible!

Many regards,

Dairyland Interviews!

As a regular Dairyland Digest feature, we will highlight one Dairyland BJD member, and one doll. Thanks to sixpence668 and Rhiannon (via slrphebos) for their interviews!

MEMBER INTERVIEW:

Username: sixpence668

Real Name: Jessica

Location: Oak Creek, WI

Age: 31

Occupation: Costume Designer

Collecting since: 2008

What was your first BJD? Dollzone Hong

What size BJD is your favorite?
I'm a fan of the big boys - my house is mostly 68cm+

What is your favorite doll mold?
Hmmm...probably Soom Sabik.

Who is your favorite doll?
Any of MadamMauMau's creations!

Your dream doll?

Soom's Cyborg Sabik - who I just got!!

Least favorite mold?
I'm really not into any of the cutesy little kid molds. I've seen some lovely ones, but they're just not my thing.

What do you want to see in the future of BJD's?

I think they're going to get more and more poseable as sculptors continue innovating with body designs.

Do your family and friends support your dolly habit?
My hubby tolerates my habit, mostly because he doesn't pay for it. My very good friend RaggedyAndroid is my dolly partner and crime and total enabler. In fact, she just talked me into buying another one. *sigh*

What would make you stop collecting?

I think I would stop if my dolls no longer gave me the pleasure they do now. If collecting became more of a burden than a joy, I think I'd move on.

What doll related projects have you attempted? E.g., faceups, mods, sewing, sueding, etc.

I've successfully blushed a body and have tried one faceup, which was made of fail. I do sew all of my dolls' clothing and accessories and have even started making a few fur wigs.

What got you started collecting?
I collected a lot of dolls as a kid--porcelain, Barbies, action figures, etc. As such, I was fascinated when stumbled on BJDs.

Who is in your current doll family?
Gabriel (DZ Hong), Morgan (DM Ipsae Monahan), Jinx (DZ Leo) and Fenix (Soom Cyborg Sabik).

What's your favorite doll find?
I just bought a 1:3 scale M14 rifle for my Sabik that is awesome!

Do you have any non-BJD dolls?
A few, mostly action figures.

Besides dolls, what else are you interested in?
My hobbies mostly revolve around fabric - costuming, sewing, knitting, etc.

If you could go anywhere, where would be the top 3 places you would go?

Italy, Japan and Australia.

DOLL INTERVIEW:

Name: Rhiannon Kaninskaya

Mold/Company: DollZone Shoyo

Birthday/Age:
(doll) July 27, 2007 (character) May 25, 1983 (but was made into a vamp at 23)

Family:
Mom and Dad that are out of contact as that was made apparent to me when I became a vampire was no contact with anyone that knew me as a human. My family now is Adam even though we are not married and our two little adopted girls Maurya and Sorcha.

Friends and Relationships:
Like actual friends? I don't have too many anymore. I been warned I can't be around them too long cause they're going to notice I don't age pretty quick. Although I suppose the extended family we have here at the house would count which includes Simi, Shayla, Caitlin, and Celeste. Relationship wise I already said I'm with Adam and I'm exclusive to him alone. He's the only man I've ever truly loved and knows what I am and doesn't mind when he touches me my skin feels cold and that I don't have a heartbeat unless I really think on it. It something that would be unsettling to others, but he has never minded and just treats me like a normal girl.

Favorite memory:
It's a toss between the one time I went to Italy with him and when we adopted our girls.

Favorite thing to wear:
The full length dresses I have. I have quite a few. Basically if the skirt or dress is down to my ankles I'm in love.

Least favorite thing to wear:
I don't think I have one, but as a vamp I look good in just about everything and right now I'm enjoying it.

If you could be anywhere where would you be?
Just wherever Adam is. He travels a lot so I get to see a lot of different places, but they are always better when I'm with him.

Do you like being photographed?

Oh heck yeah!

Any hobbies?
Writing, lots of writing and listening to Adam play piano. I want him to teach me how to since I have nothing but time in front of me.

What is one thing you know, but no one else does?
I might have told Adam this at one point, but I would gladly give up being immortal if it meant I could truly make him a father, have a baby that was from us. Corny as heck I know, but no one quite understands how deeply it still hurts me.

What is your favorite song to sing in the shower?
I hum more than sing....

Are you doing anything special for summer vacation?
Not that I'm planning other than taking a little trip to Michigan in August. Supposed to be fun.

Dairyland Interviews!

As a regular Dairyland Digest feature, we will highlight one Dairyland BJD member, and one doll. Thanks to LOL FangSensei and Bai-Long (via Cloude) for their interviews!

MEMBER INTERVIEW:

Username:
LOL FangSensei

Real Name:
Michael Smith

Location:
Mt. Horeb WI

Age:
56 (lol...wut?)

Occupation:
Advertising Sales

Collecting since:
April 2007

What was your first BJD?
Evangeline McDowell – Dream of Child Pitts

What size BJD is your favorite?
It's a almost a toss-up. I really love the Bambicrony size dolls, but also love the MSD size. I guess I'll go with MSD size.

What is your favorite doll mold?
That one's a little easier....Bambicrony Ciao Bella Shy. No scratch that...Elf Lotti....hrrrr!

Who is your favorite doll?
At risk of hurting either of Nia's or Evangeline's feelings by choosing one over the other, I will say my favourite doll is Criquette. She's such a sweet little Grandma!! I LOVE my Grandma, she gave me a dollar!!

Your dream doll?
I really think the now sold out Dollmore Model Doll Ha-Yan Cho is absolutely gorgeous. Hands down, that would be the one.

Least favorite mold?
I really don't have one particular one I don't like....but I guess, in general I'm not overly fond of most of the boy doll molds out there. Too many of them are way too gaunt or goth or androgynous or vampiresque or all of the above to have much appeal to me. Why can't there be male dolls who look like regular normal dudes?

Do you have a bjd question you always wanted to ask, but feel dumb asking?
I can't think of one that I'd ever feel dumb asking.

What do you want to see in the future of BJDs? As I mentioned above...I'd like to see some boy dolls that are more like regular normal dudes, especially in the MSD size.

Do your family and friends support your dolly habit? As for family, well...most of what I do as far as my younger brother and sister are concerned might as well be occurring on some distant planet. LOL.

As for my daughter, dolls kind of creep her out for some reason. But once my grand-daughter is old enough to appreciate them, it's game on!

As for my buddies down at the local pub, well....this hobby of mine is fine source of robust comedy. LOL.

What would make you stop collecting?
The Heat Death of The Universe.

What doll-related projects have you attempted? e.g., faceups, mods, sewing, sueding
etc.
I have not attempted anything, as yet, but since Emily has shown me how to do glue-sueding, I really should become proficient at that. As for sewing, well...I would really like to design and make some doll clothes. A lot of times I have a vision of what I want my dolls to wear, but nothing exists in the world to match that vision. Whether I have the skill to the match vision remains to be seen. LOL

What got you started collecting?
Specifically, I started collected after Emily started collecting BJDs. She wanted a certain doll, and since Dream of Doll had a Valentine's 2 for 1 special, that was how I came to buy my first doll, Evangeline. Once I got Evangeline, I was hooked. That being said, I've always had an interest and appreciation of dolls that has been a part of me since childhood.

Who is in your current doll family?
Evangeline McDowell --- Dream of Doll Pitts

Criquette Svoboda-Belliveau--- Bambicrony Elf Lotti

Nia O'Fein --- Dream of Doll Petsha Hybrid

Tiarnán McDowell -- Bambicrony CB Shy

Růžová Barva-- Bambicrony PingPing

Neilikka Väinämöinen -- Bobobie Sunny

Cvetka Ljubljanicj -- FairyLand Puki Rose

What's your favorite doll find?
So far, my favourite doll find are the vintage Ken clothes I got for
Tiarnán at the Madison Doll Show earlier this year. VERY cool stuff, unlike the horrid crap that Ken dolls wear these days.

Do you have any non-BJD dolls?
Yes. I have a PrimaDolly Ashlette Blythe named Vanessa.

Besides dolls, what else are you interested in?
I'm a big sports fan. I follow all the usual teams, Badgers, Packers, Brewers. I'm also a Detroit Tigers fan and (when they're not playing the Packers) a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I follow soccer, primarily English Premier League and am a big Chelsea Blues fan.

NASCAR and motorsports are big passion of mine. Naturally I'm a big fan of Wisconsin's very own Matt Kenseth. I also follow IRL and F1. I'm hoping Danica Patrick can win next year's Indy 500.

I've been a railfan all my life. I got my first model train set when I was 2 years old, and my love of trains has never diminished. I worked for the Milwaukee Road during college. And today, I'm always watching trains. Nothing like a hobby where you watch other people work.

Finally, I'm a anime/manga fan. I download all the latest fansubs. My current favourite show is BAKEMONOGATARI (Ghost Story). And as y'all might or should know, it was anime and manga that brought Emily and I together 12 years ago...specifically the wonderful shoujo anime/manga FUSHIGI YUUGI.

If you could go anywhere where would be the top 3 places you would go?
Just 3, and so?
*sigh*
Okay...in no particular order:

Czech Republic --- Prague, Plzen, Bohemian Forest...my ancestors are from there, so I'd love to go there and see the town, Folmova, where my great great grandfather Wolfgang was born.

Australia --- Ironically, I'm not as much interested in Sydney as I am in other parts of Australia. I definitely want to ride the transcontinental train from Sidney to Perth. I also want to ride the train from Adelaide to Darwin via Alice Springs and Ayers Rock.

Peru --- Macchu Picchu, need I say more? Peruvian food? The source of the Amazon? I guess, if it's not considered cheating, I could add Ecuador and Chile to this trip. I've always wanted to go top that part of South America.

What makes you special as a collector:
I guess in one sense, that's not really for me to decide. It's for others to decide based on their perceptions of me and my take on BJD collecting. I think I take a different outlook on this than most of y'all...and that is probably to a greater degree gender based. I'm coming at this with what I think is a decidedly different male outlook or so I would imagine. Or it could be a simple difference of demeanor and personality (the lack thereof).

I also look at the sizes of BJDs a bit differently as well. I think part of that is based on my model railroading experiences. The sizes, SD, MSD, Tinies and so on are a scale models of the same thing, just as in model railroading, O, HO & N. The way I look at it, Tiarnán, a Bambicrony CB Shy and Cvetka, a Fairyland Puki Rose are actually the same age despite the difference in scale.

And while this is probably not all that unique in the collecting world, I will never add a doll to my collection that will not fit in the either the family line or story line I've already established for all my dolls.

In the lower right corner of each individual forum post, you will see several buttons. Depending on your forum skin, the buttons will have different looks, but the same functions. The third button from the left is the Multi-Quote button. This will bring you to a screen where you can type your reply under the quotes from all the messages you selected. It's simple! If you ever need assistance, a Moderator will be glad to help.

EMAIL ADDRESS UPDATES
Is the email address you registered with the forum current? We often receive bounced emails on behalf of forum members (PM notifications, topic replies, etc.).
